In the IB Visual Arts program, understanding the cultural context of artworks is essential—not just for the Connections Study, but also for shaping a well-informed artist project. Whether you're analyzing global artists or developing your own voice, exploring diverse traditions helps you see how art reflects identity, belief, and place.

Why Cultural Context Matters in IB Visual Arts
When you study an artwork, you're not just looking at shapes, colors, or composition. You're asking:

This is your bridge between aesthetics and meaning.

The Connections Study asks you to analyze and compare artworks, and to identify connections between artists, which include:
