I’m Camila Vasconcelos — a Brazilian visual arts teacher, photographer, and practitioner-researcher dedicated to cultural appreciation and creative exploration. With over thirteen years of experience across Brazil, the United States, and the Middle East, I blend multicultural arts education with IB Visual Arts, CAS, and project-based learning.
My work focuses on traditional art forms, cultural authenticity, and arts education, helping students understand the stories behind crafts, symbols, and visual culture while developing strong artistic and critical thinking skills.

I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a Master’s degree in Arts Education and certified IB DP Visual Arts Teacher..
Currently, I’m also serving as CAS Coordinator and
Head of the Fine & Performing Arts Department. Passionate about arts integration, multicultural curricula, and creative autonomy, I’m dedicated to nurturing students’ voices, identities, and visual literacy.
More about my work
Teaching students to achieve their full potential in the art classroom became transformative when I implemented Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) and the Eight Studio Habits of Mind. In my classroom, students have autonomy with media, themes, and techniques while still meeting curriculum and assessment expectations. This approach empowers them to create unique, authentic work and to build portfolios that are strong enough for art and design school applications. I use the Eight Studio Habits of Mind to guide learning: • Develop Craft • Engage & Persist • Envision • Express • Observe • Reflect • Stretch & Explore • Understand Art Worlds These habits align closely with the IB Learner Profile and the U.S. National Core Arts Standards, and they underpin my work in IB Visual Arts and CAS.

Students & Teachers Resources
A space for both Visual Arts learners and educators to find practical, inspiring resources. You’ll discover multicultural project-based learning ideas, IB-focused strategies, CAS & TOK resources, and arts integration activities that connect visual arts to other subjects. These resources are informed by my ongoing research into traditional art forms, cultural authenticity, and culturally responsive arts education.
More About My Research
Combining passions to deliver meaningful
and culturally responsive lessons
Throughout my career, I have been fascinated by how traditional art forms and crafts carry cultural memory. When I travel, I treat each experience as fieldwork: observing artisans, visiting heritage sites, and collecting visual and written notes I later transform into classroom projects. I have lived in Brazil, the USA, and the Middle East, and have explored more than 20 countries. Here, I share some of these cultural encounters and how I translate them into lessons that help students understand and keep these traditions alive.
