What is a CAS Interview?

CAS interviews are formal checkpoints where students, coordinators, and supervisors engage in meaningful dialogue—going beyond written reflections to explore understanding, progress, and personal growth.

These conversations help reinforce CAS expectations, review student advancement, provide feedback, and adjust plans as needed.

How many interviews are necessary?

Typically, there are three scheduled interviews: early in DP Year 1, late Year 1, and near the end of Year 2. Additional informal check-ins may occur throughout the program.

Interview Breakdown & Preparation Guide

First CAS Interview

(Start of Year 1)

Purpose:

  • Gauge understanding of CAS, identify interests, review learning outcomes, and clarify how evidence will be collected.

Preparation:

  • Attend CAS orientation and group sessions.

  • Review CAS goals, learner profile connections, and planning stages.

Sample Questions:

  • What excites or challenges you most about CAS?

  • How will CAS help you grow personally?

  • How do you plan to balance the three strands in your CAS experiences?

  • What strategies will you use to organize your CAS portfolio?

Purpose:

  • Review CAS engagement, assess progress toward requirements, and evaluate portfolio development.

Preparation:

  • Update your CAS portfolio comprehensively.

  • Reflect on which learning outcomes you’ve met and which need focus.

Sample Questions:

  • What experiences have been most meaningful for your growth?

  • Which learning outcomes do you still need to address?

  • What are your CAS plans for the upcoming summer or term?

Purpose:

  • Reflect on the entire CAS journey and articulate how all seven learning outcomes have been achieved.

Preparation:

  • Finalize your portfolio with reflections and evidence.

  • Reflect on personal growth, challenges overcome, and future implications.

Sample Questions:

  • How have your CAS experiences shaped your identity and values?

  • How have these experiences prepared you for future decisions?

  • Describe how creativity, activity, and service have intertwined in your journey

Second CAS Interview

(End of Year 1 / Start of Year 2)

Third CAS Interview (End of Year 2 / Summative Presentation)

CAS Coordinator

  • Facilitates and schedules the three formal CAS interviews.

  • Guides students through CAS expectations, learning outcomes, and evidence collection.

  • Reviews portfolio progress, supports reflection development, and confirms program completion.

Lecture

CAS Supervisor (or Adviser)

  • Offers ongoing support between interviews—through feedback, reflections, and reassuring collaborations.

  • Prepares students for interviews by prompting deeper insight and emphasizing links to learning outcomes.

  • Confirms students' engagement with CAS stages, evidence submission, and project development.
